    • As early as 1940 we had an eye for value!

The company was gaining the respect of manufacturers spread throughout the length of the United Kingdom and Europe for its professionalism and expert buying skills. Similarly, we had earned a reputation for being the masters at introducing revolutionary new ideas in both production and fabric design to the folk of Tayside, and even further afield - the Cooper & McKenzie store had become a destination shopping experience!

    • It´s January 1940 and my grandfather takes over at the helm at JC McKenzie.

I joined my Father in the company and was fortunate to win a Travelling Scholarship funded by our Trade Association.  In New York, Los Angeles and San Francisco, I witnessed an eye-opening new form of retailing. Stores were very successfully utilising secondary sites, often one or two levels above the street – but importantly situated only a stone´s throw away from the internationally renowned stores and newly created shopping malls.  What´s more, professional service and fun were thrown in as part of the package!  I returned to Dundee in no doubt that I had viewed what was to be the way forward in retail menswear!
